Hamilton-based IT firm Binatech Systems Solutions has expanded its presence in western New York with the purchase of Orchard Computer Solutions. Binatech has had a satellite office in Buffalo since 2002.
President Michael Haworth says he decided to purchase Orchard Computer Solutions to grow his company’s business in western New York and the Niagara Peninsula. Binatech’s Buffalo staff and the Orchard staff have been consolidated at a new location in West Seneca.
Binatech was established in 1990 and its acquisition brings the total number of staff at the firm to 23. Sixteen of those employees work out of the Hamilton office.

Hamilton home builder New Horizon Homes has won the first-ever Green Home Award for outstanding environmental performance in a new, single-detached home.
The award was presented to New Horizon president Jeff Paikin and vice-president Joe Giacomodonato at the Canadian Home Builders’ Association’s national conference in Quebec City last week. New Horizon also won a Home Renovation Award. The Green Home Award was for a custom project the company undertook in Grimsby, while the Home Renovation Award was for a basement renovation in Burlington.

A new mortgage brokerage franchise, owned by Catherine Evel, has opened in Waterdown. Catherine’s team at the Dominion Lending Centres Homestead Financial outlet will serve clients in Waterdown, Dundas, Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville and surrounding areas.
Dominion Lending Centres is a national mortgage brokerage and leasing company with more than 1,200 mortgage professionals across Canada. Launched in January 2006, the company was named Best Newcomer (Mortgage Brokerage Firm) at the prestigious CMP Canadian Mortgage Awards in 2008.
