One of the bright lights in Hamilton's business community is joining MacGillivray Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors.

Sylvain Corbeil is leaving a 12-year career at Royal Bank of Canada to become MacGillivray's director of strategy and development.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have Sylvain become part of our growing team," said MacGillivray partner Lou Celli.

"He has proven to be a superstar in Hamilton's business and volunteer communities since coming to this city from Montreal in 2005. He's talented, well liked and very highly respected for his business acumen."

Corbeil's community work in Hamilton has included serving as president of the board of directors of Ronald McDonald House, commercial campaign chair of the United Way of Burlington and Greater Hamilton, director of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, and member of the audit and finance committee of St. Joseph's Healthcare.

"I love Hamilton and want to be part of the rebirth of this community," Corbeil said emphatically. "Also, the people here are very genuine and generous."

He said he decided to join MacGillivray because of the company's growth mindset, its leadership in the community, client focus and willingness to help companies be successful. He begins work at MacGillivray on April 27.

Burlington's PLAY Advertising has landed a major national account. Over the next year, PLAY will run a series of national ad campaigns to help Superior Propane build its business. The first campaign launches in May to sell service plans to Superior's customers -- who are primarily rural homeowners, and commercial, construction, mining, and oil and gas industries.

"It's nice to win new national accounts in a recession when business is tight," PLAY owner Brian Torsney said.
