Christine Smurlick, the Stoney Creek-based owner of The Essential Business Women’s Trade Show is hosting three upcoming shows in southern Ontario this fall. Geared to women who are interested in starting a business in direct sales, the shows will be held in Oakville on September 12, Hamilton on September 26 and Cambridge on October 4. The shows will feature numerous vendors who are seeking sales representatives for their products including jewellery, skin care products, health supplements, environmental products and kitchenware. Guest speakers will address topics such as “What You Need to Know to Start Your Own Direct Sales Business;” “Why Insurance is a Necessity, Not a Luxury;” How to Make Networking Work for You;” and “It’s Not Personal, It’s Your Personality.” Christine notes that direct sales is the fastest growing industry today, with 85 per cent of salespeople being women. Hamilton’s Cynthia Dilney has been designated a Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) by the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada (IPBC). Cynthia is the finance manager of Whitehall Bureau of Canada Limited. She received the CPB designation after passing a three-hour exam based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. The IPBC’s national mandate is to institute professional standards specifically for the Canadian bookkeeping profession.
