Hamilton photographer Joseph Hollick has won a major award from the Tourism Industry Association of Canada. Joseph received the VIA Rail Canada Volunteer of the Year Award, one of the association’s 2009 National Awards for Tourism Excellence. He was honoured for his work in locating, photographing and promoting Hamilton’s waterfalls and for changing the public’s perception of Hamilton.
“I was extremely honoured to be selected as the winner of the national tourism award, mainly because it showcases to all of Canada that the image of Hamilton is changing from an industrial city to a green and clean city, now known as “The City of Waterfalls,” he said. Since 2000, Joseph has documented and photographed all of Hamilton’s waterfalls and cascades. He has produced posters, lectured, conducted tours and provided information on the city’s waterfalls to various groups, and for numerous web sites and books.
The awards ceremony has held on November 3 in Saint John, New Brunswick, and attended by 400 members of the national tourism industry.
