A group of local business people and former Thistle Club alumni, led by local businessman Paul Lloyd, is planning a new recreational development for Hamilton.  The Augusta Athletic Club will offer an updated version of the type of ambience and camaraderie that was once the hallmark of Hamilton’s famous Thistle Club.

“While Hamilton is already home to a number of fitness chains, as well as business clubs, no one is offering the type of relaxed but upscale club that we’re envisioning,” Lloyd says.  “We’re creating a place where members will be able to entertain clients, work out or play a little squash, enjoy a steam room or sauna, and then feel comfortable texting or talking business.”

The club’s supporters have secured a building site at 16 Augusta Street, and are anticipating a spring unveiling of their plans.  For more information visit www.theaugustaclub.com.

Carmen’s Inc. will next week launch Mama Yolanda’s Gourmet Lasagna, a new gourmet product and retail store.  “We have travelled all over the world tasting and perfecting our lasagne recipe, and what we have produced is the best lasagna in the world,” says Carmen’s founder Peter Mercanti.

The shop will feature classic Bolognese, Cajun chicken, sausage Bolognese, vegetarian ricotta and spinach lasagnas.  It will be located at the rear entrance of Carmen’s banquet and convention centre on Stone Church Road East in Hamilton.

Jackie Parkin of Lifestyle Dog Training in Burlington has created a new program for shelter and rescue dogs.  The program aims to help owners bond with their newly adopted dogs, develop trust, eliminate problem behaviours and learn basic obedience skills.

“Many owners of newly adopted shelter and rescue dogs are not prepared for some of the baggage these dogs bring with them, and they expect too much too soon,” Parkin says.  “This program is designed to help these dogs and owners form a bond that will last a lifetime.”
