United Family Martial Arts–Dundurn has opened their new facility on Charlton Avenue West in Hamilton.  The company recently moved from a smaller, rented space nearby on Dundurn Street South.  The 9,000-square foot building will accommodate the company’s existing clients and provide space for additional clients and new training options.

United Family Martial Arts-Dundurn offers karate, kickboxing, a fitness room, private lessons, lessons for corporate clients, personal training and after-school programming.  Owner Gord Waddell was World Kickboxing Champion in 2001 and has also won three Canadian kickboxing championships and the intercontinental world title.

Burlington’s Gerrie Electric Wholesale Limited is a finalist for the Family Enterprise of the Year Achievement Award in the Greater Toronto Area.  The award recognizes local family businesses that excel in both their businesses and their communities.  It is offered through a partnership between the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise, KPMG Enterprise and RBC Royal Bank.

Gerrie Electric Wholesale Limited is an independent electrical distributor, in business since 1957.  One of the largest independent electrical distributors in Canada, it is now entering its third generation of family ownership. 

The award will be presented at a ceremony in Mississauga on March 25, 2010.

Hamilton’s VitaSound Audio Inc. has been recognized with the Hamilton-Halton Project of the Year Award from the Hamilton-Halton Engineering Week Committee, in association with the Ontario Society for Professional Engineers. 

VitaSound was recognized in the Innovative-Technology category for its Neuro-Compensator, the world’s first hearing aid based on a unique amplification strategy.  The company last year received Profit Magazine’s Innovations@Work Award.
