Henco

In April 2006 Hellingman was called to provide assistance to Henco Industries Limited, after a group of Native protesters occupied its Douglas Creek Estates housing development in Caledonia, and after the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) refused to enforce a court injunction which ordered the demonstrators to leave. As a result of the local, regional and national media attention Hellingman secured for our client’s plight, the OPP initiated an unsuccessful attempt to remove the protesters. Through ongoing media and government relations, our efforts were instrumental in securing a payment of more than $16 million from the provincial government to purchase the housing development and pay some of Henco’s costs.
